Local Law Enforcement
Roughly 50 automobiles have been smeared with what appears to be blood from a person in the Germany's town of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, police confirm police.
Cars, building surfaces and postal boxes were vandalized, sometimes with prohibited symbols, they stated in a official communication.
Police state they were contacted late on Wednesday, when a man observed that a automobile in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been covered with a red-colored fluid.
The fluid had been applied in the form of a banned symbol, they stated.
Law enforcement then located many other smeared vehicles and residential walls in the surrounding area.
These symbols are banned in Germany under regulations outlawing the public display of symbols from the Nazi era.
Officials say preliminary tests indicate the liquid was probably blood from a person.
"At present there remains no clue as to its source; investigators are presently not cognizant of any harm in connection with the event," they added.
Municipal representatives said they were trying "to unravel the incident" and have appealed to the public for details.
A high-ranking official said the incident rendered him speechless and had to be solved promptly.
"This incident hits the core of Hanau and reawakens the trauma of the extremist violent incident half a decade ago," he posted on social media, recalling the death of nine victims by a shooter aiming at people of foreign heritage in five years prior.
